Beavers off to an early lead in 2021 Advocacy Challenge

What a weekend for Beaver Nation! The Men’s Basketball Team has advanced to the Sweet 16 and the Women’s Team has advanced to the Round of 32 to play for a shot at the same. We are also happy to report the Beaver Caucus has taken an early lead over the University of Oregon during the first week of the 2021 Advocacy Challenge!

The Challenge is a five-week contest between the Beavers and the Ducks to see who can engage the most alumni and supporters in legislative advocacy and have the loudest (virtual) voice in Salem. Many thanks to the dozens of you who have taken action and contacted your legislators. While we’ve started strong, we know the Ducks will be charging hard to catch up with us. Help us maintain and build our lead by visiting the 2021 Advocacy Challenge and taking action in one (or all!) advocacy activities. With easy-to-send templates, it only takes a few moments to make a big difference.

The last time our Men’s Basketball Team made a run this deep into the NCAA Tournament was 1982, when robust state support meant that an in-state student at OSU paid $1,175 in tuition and fees per year. Decades of state dis-investment in higher education has put the burden of paying for college increasingly on students and their families, putting a university education out of reach for many. Contact your legislator today to let them know that a quality, affordable college education should be within the reach of any Oregonian.

We’re one week down with four weeks to go in our competition with the Ducks. Let’s let them know that our basketball teams aren’t the only ones in it to win it.
